Privacy policy
Last updated 8 October 2026
The short version
- Tythe does not collect your data. There are no accounts, ads, analytics or tracking.
- Everything Tythe records stays on your devices and in your own private iCloud storage, which only you can access.
- We (the developer) can't see any of it, and we never sell or share it.
Tythe is made by Joshua Rice ("we", "us"). This policy covers the Tythe apps for Mac and iPhone.
What Tythe uses on your Mac
- The app you're using. Tythe notes which app is in front and for how long, so it can tell productive time from unproductive time.
- Your browser tab (Safari and Chrome). With your permission, Tythe reads the title and address of the tab you're viewing so it can judge whether a website is productive. This check happens on your Mac. If your Mac has Apple Intelligence, Tythe may ask it for help, and that also runs on your Mac.
- Accessibility. With your permission, Tythe uses this only to place a pause screen over unproductive apps and websites when your balance runs out. It doesn't read what you type or what's on your screen.
What Tythe uses on your iPhone
- Screen Time. With your permission, Tythe uses Apple's Screen Time tools to measure time in the apps and websites you choose, and to pause them when your balance runs out. Apple keeps the identity of those apps private: Tythe's main app works with time totals, and app names are only shown inside Apple's protected Screen Time reports.
- Health (optional). If you turn on exercise earning, Tythe reads your exercise minutes or heart rate, and your age to work out heart-rate zones. Health data is only used to work out the time you've earned. Tythe saves that earned time, not the health data itself. Health data is never used for advertising or shared with anyone.
Where your data is kept
Tythe keeps its history on your devices, for example the apps and websites you used, page titles and addresses, times and how they were counted, along with your settings and app icons. To keep your Mac and iPhone in step, this is also saved to the private database in your own iCloud account, run by Apple. Only you, signed in with your Apple Account, can access it. Apple's handling of iCloud data is covered by Apple's privacy policy.
Tythe doesn't send your data to us or anyone else, and it doesn't use any other services.
Deleting your data
- Deleting Tythe from a device removes the data stored on that device.
- To delete the copy in iCloud on iPhone, go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Manage Account Storage > Tythe > Delete Data from iCloud.
- On Mac, go to System Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Manage > Tythe > Delete All Files.
Children
Tythe isn't directed at children under 13 and doesn't knowingly collect information from them.
